A Great Memorial Day Weekend!

We had a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend. It started on Saturday night when we all sat down to watch the movie, "Taking Chance." It is the touching true story of a Marine officer who volunteers to be the escort to 19 year old Chance Phelps who had been killed in Iraq. It was a wonderful movie, and a great reminder.

Sunday evening, we went to our sixth "Celebration at the Station." It is a Memorial Day concert held at Union Station with the Kansas City Symphony. Across the street from the Station there is a huge grassy hill in front of the Liberty Memorial which is the nation's only World War I Monument and Museum. It is such a great event, and is something we look forward to every year. We take picnics and spread out our blankets and chairs and enjoy the patriotic concert, and then some of the best fireworks in Kansas City! This year we sat with the Buells, the Hamricks, the McMillans, the Schows and the Ibas, along with about 40,000 other patriotic people. It was our biggest group yet! I absolutely love this event because it always helps me to remember to celebrate Memorial Day in the way it was intended to be celebrated!

Monday, our family (plus our friend Kate Burke) went to Worlds of Fun, our local amusement park, in what has also become a Memorial Day tradition. It was not too crowded, and the longest we had to wait in line was about 15 minutes, and that was for the newest roller coaster, The Prowler. We all had a great time, especially Jack, who was tall enough to ride every single ride for the first time. The temperature was in the upper 60's, which was great until we went on The Fury of the Nile and got wet! Then it drizzled for about 3 hours, so it got a little chilly! All in all, it was one of our best days at Worlds of Fun, but we missed Matthew!!
